The Manchester Branch of metal fabrication specialists Barnshaws Section Benders took the opportunity to spread the goodwill to the least fortunate in Manchester City Centre this festive season. Wayne Salkeld, his son Jack, who both work for Barnshaws, and Wayne’s wife Lesley were asked by a friend to help provide transport to take clothes, food and toiletries in support of the homeless this Christmas.

Barnshaw metal benders received a call this week from Santa who was looking to replace the runners on his sleigh and wanted to speak to the experts to choose a material to get just the right curve on the end of the runners.

Reducing weight and improving aerodynamics in freight transport vehicles is a major focus for the commercial vehicle industry. Barnshaws is helping achieve these goals by supplying precision press brake formed chassis components and curved aluminium section extrusions for the trailer bodies of trucks designed for low weight and low drag.

A centre piece in the current 75th anniversary commemoration of the Battle of Britain, ‘Sentinel’, by Tim Tolkien, salutes the efforts of the Castle Bromwich aircraft factory in supplying arms for the war effort. Funded by the National Lottery, the vast sculpture, with its three Supermarine Spitfires peeling off into the sky, was enabled in part by the metal bending and profiling expertise of Barnshaws Section Benders.

Creating manufacturing jigs for the production of aerospace components requires high quality materials and precision machining. So, when parts of an original jig, which had been press-formed, started to crack, it was essential to find an alternative production method, which led to Barnshaws Metal Bending being contracted to manufacture the new components.
