The London Aquatics Centre is one of the icons of the 2012 London Olympics. The bending project for the roof was completed for Rowecord Engineering, Newport.
The waveform shape of its complex steel roof flows dramatically upwards in a smooth curve from one end to the other and also side to side.
Zaha Hadid designed building was engineered by ARUP and managed by contractor Balfour Beatty.
The extremely complex arrangement of metal bending needed highly accurate forming to assist in the equally complex structural engineering and fabrication undertaken by Rowecord Engineering. It is most certainly a lasting legacy to the Hoppe family whom will shortly have their second family member Ian, as President of the BCSA following on from the industry legend, Ben Hoppe.
