The breathtaking design of the CWK convention and exhibition centre near Rzeszow in South East Poland has, in part, been made possible by the skills and expertise of the engineers at Barnshaws Polska. The curved sections of the tubular steel structure have been created at the new Polish Engineering facility that has been set up to service steel fabricators and construction companies across Europe.
The project required over 450 tubes to be bent to a variety of radii, from 3701 mm to 60,000 mm. Mainly comprising two different diameters of tube, 457 mm and 273 mm, the thicknesses varied from 6 mm to 30 mm which called for an induction bending process to be used.
Sales Director Maciej Walkowicz comments: "We have a very well equipped facility that allows us to deliver on short lead times, even for projects that have complex bending requirements. In this case we have provided a continuous supply of tubes that are carefully matched to the construction schedule.
"This type of work requires considerable expertise in order to deliver the exact specifications of the designer. For the larger 457 mm tube, we have one of only two machines in the country that is capable of bending this tube, while our effective project management skills and technical insight have helped us to win this prestigious contract."
The precision bent tubes have been continuously shipped to the construction site where they have been assembled and welded together to form the curved support structure of this stunning new building. Once complete, the new multifunctional CWK facility will comprise both exhibition and conference areas along with a restaurant, banqueting and office space, which together will extend to over 27,000 m2.
